Key messages

  • This study examined whether integration of patient-reported migraine data from a commercially available smartphone app (MigrnX® by SensorRx) would impact prescribing of preventive migraine medications.
  • The intervention of integrating an app with the EHR led to a small but statistically significant increase in prescribing of preventive migraine medications, which was driven primarily by more prescribing of anticonvulsants.
  • Prescribing increased with increasing underlying MIDAS scores, and provider “click” behavior indicates that any influence was not driven by direct patient-provider communication.
